Dimensions of Football Pitches by Fifa

FIFA has set regulations for the dimensions of football pitches to ensure that all matches are played on a consistent playing surface. The official dimensions of a football pitch, as set by FIFA, are as follows:

Length: minimum 100 meters (110 yards) maximum 110 meters (120 yards)

Width: minimum 64 meters (70 yards) maximum 75 meters (80 yards)

The playing surface must be rectangular and marked with lines. The lines must not be more than 12 centimeters (5 inches) wide and should be of a different color than the playing surface. The two longer boundary lines are called touchlines, while the two shorter lines are called goal lines.

The center of the pitch must be marked with a circle with a radius of 9.15 meters (10 yards). In addition, there must be a penalty area at each end of the pitch, with a distance of 16.5 meters (18 yards) from the goal line and marked with a box. The penalty spot is located 11 meters (12 yards) from the goal line, directly in front of the center of the goal.

These dimensions apply to both international matches and domestic competitions governed by FIFA.

Construction Method

Football turf construction involves a series of steps that must be followed carefully to ensure the pitch meets the required standards. The steps involved in constructing a football turf are as follows:

  1. Basework: This involves preparing the foundation for the turf by excavating the site to the required depth or filling soil upto required hight and ensuring that the soil is compacted and leveled.
  2. Aggregate filling: Once the base is prepared, 3 layer of aggregate material is added to provide a stable surface for the turf.40mm, 20mm, 6mm aggrigates will be leveled and compacted.
  3. Drainage line installation: After the base preparation, an efficient drainage system is installed beneath the turf. This involves laying perforated pipes in a specific pattern across the pitch at a depth of approximately 300mm. These pipes are then covered with mesh and a layer of aggregate material to prevent soil or other debris from clogging the drainage lines.
  4. Industrial Framework: After the aggregate filling, an industrial framework made of steel or other suitable material is installed to provide support for the turf and ensure that it stays in place.
  5. Surface grading: The surface of the turf is graded to ensure that it slopes uniformly towards the drainage lines, allowing water to flow freely and efficiently.
  6. Electrical cabling and light installation: If the pitch is to be used for night matches, electrical cabling and light fixtures are installed.
  7. Fencing work and goal post tying: A fencing system is installed around the perimeter of the pitch to provide security and prevent unauthorized access. The goal posts are also installed and securely tied to the ground.
  8. Turf laying: The artificial turf is then laid over the filled aggrigates, and the edges are carefully trimmed to fit the dimensions of the pitch.
  9. Silica sand and rubber granules filling: After laying the turf, it is filled with a layer of silica sand to provide stability and a rubber granule layer to ensure proper ball bounce and cushioning.
  10. Lining and marking: Finally, the pitch is marked with lines and markings according to FIFA regulations to indicate the areas for penalties, goal areas, and sidelines.

Following these steps ensures that the football turf is constructed correctly and meets all FIFA-approved standards for use in professional matches.

How to Maintain an Football Turf

Football Turf Maintenance:

Maintaining an artificial football turf is crucial to ensure its longevity, performance, and safety. Here are some maintenance tips to keep your football turf in good condition:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Regularly sweep and clean the football turf surface to remove dirt, debris, and leaves. Use a leaf blower or a soft brush to sweep off the turf surface, and then use a pressure washer to remove any remaining dirt or stains.
  2. Grooming: Grooming the turf fibers with a brush or rake can help restore the upright position of the fibers and improve the ball roll and player traction. Grooming should be performed as needed, especially in high-traffic areas.
  3. Sand and rubber infill: Over time, the sand and rubber infill materials will settle and become compacted, reducing the turf's shock absorption and ball bounce. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly add more sand and rubber infill to keep the turf's cushioning properties intact.
  4. Repairing damages: Any damages to the turf, such as tears, holes, or uneven areas, should be repaired immediately to prevent further damage. call in Surekha Exports maintanance team to repair the damages as soon as possible.
  5. Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the turf for any signs of damage, such as worn-out areas, tears, or uneven surfaces. Early detection and repair can prevent further damage and extend the life of the turf.
  6. Preventative Measures: Avoid using metal studs, cleats or spikes on the turf surface, as they can cause significant damage. Similarly, avoid using heavy equipment or vehicles on the turf surface, as they can cause excessive wear and tear.

By following these maintenance tips, you can ensure that your football turf stays in optimal condition, performs well, and lasts for many years.

Detailed Preventive Measures

Preventative measures are crucial to maintaining an football turf in good condition and extending its lifespan. Here are some detailed preventative measures to keep in mind:

  1. Footwear: Players should wear appropriate footwear when playing on the football turf. Avoid using metal cleats or studs as they can cause significant damage to the turf fibers. Instead, use rubber or plastic studs, which are safer and gentler on the turf surface.
  2. Heavy Equipment: Avoid using heavy equipment, machinery, or vehicles on the turf surface, as they can cause excessive wear and tear, damage the turf fibers, and compact the infill materials. If necessary, use specialized turf-friendly equipment that is designed to minimize turf damage.
  3. Pets: Keep pets off the football turf to prevent damage from digging and scratching. Urine and feces can also cause damage to the turf fibers and leave unpleasant odors, so it is important to clean up any pet waste immediately.
  4. Sharp Objects: Avoid placing sharp objects or tools on the turf surface, as they can cause tears and punctures. If any sharp objects need to be used on or near the turf surface, take appropriate precautions to avoid damaging the turf fibers.
  5. Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents on the turf surface, as they can damage the fibers and infill materials. Use only recommended cleaning products and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
  6. Proper Use: Proper use of the football turf can prevent damage and ensure its longevity. Players should avoid dragging their feet, sliding, or stopping abruptly, as these actions can cause excessive wear and tear on the turf surface. Coaches and trainers should also ensure that the turf is not overused or subjected to excessive traffic.

By following these preventative measures, you can maintain the quality of your football turf and ensure that it lasts for many years.
